Palace Solitaire
(c) 1991-1992 Joe Dabrowski
Palace Solitaire is a BBS door game of the traditional Klondike Solitaire
card game. The game is played with a single deck of 52 cards. The cards
are dealt across into 7 piles, so that the first row starts on the 1st
pile, the second row on the 2nd pile, and so on until the 7th pile is the
only one with 7 cards. The remaining 24 cards are left for the "Deck".
To move a card to another pile or from the deck, it must be the next lower
card in number and a different colored suit. (e.g. a 7 of clubs or a 7
of spades can be placed on a 8 of hearts; a 10 of hearts or a 10 of
diamonds can be placed on a Jack of clubs) The only card that may be placed
on an empty pile is the King.
There are also four "Ace Piles" that must be started with the Ace and work
their way up to the King. These piles are separated into their respective
suits, so that a 4 of hearts can only be placed on a 3 of hearts.
The object of the game is to place all of the cards onto the Ace Piles, so
that in the end, there are four piles left with the Kings on top of them.
The deck is dealt three cards at a time from the top. If you play or are
unable to play a card from the deck, the next three cards will be displayed.
There are a few programs that do not display the Club character too well.
To get around this problem, there is an option at the Main Menu which will
allow you to display a 'C' for the suit.
From the Main Menu, the option View Scoreboard will allow you to see the
standings of all users playing the game. A '*' displayed after the user's
total plays means they have an unfinished game that is not included in
these statistics.
The commands that are active in the game are as follows:
ANSI = Toggle ansi graphic display on/off
UNDO = Undo the last play. Remember that only one play is stored.
(This means you cannot back up two moves, only one.)
Q = Quit the current game and return to the main menu
N = Quit Current game and start a New One
R = Redisplay the current screen
1 - 7 = Stand for the 7 piles from left to right (see below)
D = Stands for the Deck (see below)
A = Stands for the Ace Piles (see below)
The commands given during the play of the game are to be separated with a
space. So to tell the computer you want to play from the Deck to the 3rd
pile, you would use the command "D 3". To Play from the Deck or the 7th pile
to the Ace Piles, the commands "D A" and "7 A" would be used respectively.
To display the next three cards from the deck, the command "D" would be used
by itself.
If the Tournament Mode has been activated by the Sysop, then every time the
Undo command is used, it will raise your total plays by one.
If the Relaxed Mode has been actived by the Sysop, you are able to move
partial piles between stacks. An example would be if you had one pile with
say from 10 of Clubs - 7 of Diamonds and another pile from Jack of Diamonds -
4 of Spades, you could move the 6 of Spades - 4 of Spades over on top of the
7 of Diamonds. This would allow you to play the 7 of Hearts if needed.
If the Card Scoring mode has been activated by the sysop, the game is
scored by the movement of the cards. The following is how the scoring
is calculated:
Playing a card from the Deck to the Ace Piles = 10 Points
Playing a card from the Deck to the Piles = 5 points
Playing a card from the Piles to the Ace Piles = 5 Points
Uncovering a new card in the Seven Piles = 5 Points
Undo Command = Lose points from that Turn plus another 3 points
That's it for the instructions. If you do need further help, then please
ask the SysOp for help.
